UVC Green

In an effort to be green, or environmentally aware, University Village Colorado (UVC) made every effort to reuse or recycle materials that were on the property during the development and construction of the shopping center.

Crushed 40,000 cubic yards of concrete foundations and onsite rubble and reused it in site work throughout the site.

  Recycled 250 tons of steel.

  Recycled 300+ old tires.

Removed 6 containers of asbestos at 15 cubic yards each.

Many large evergreens were relocated within the shopping center and along the public trail system.  Other trees were donated to local property owners or reused as mulch for landscaping.

The City of Colorado Springs firefighters were invited to practice “live” burns in buildings to be demolished where they demonstrated a new fire extinguishing technique.
